Color & Design

Compact is inherently a dark skin, which features a simple color scheme of smooth flowing grey and black on the background and striking white on the text. The color transition from the default Steam interface is recognizable but with simple color layers, something that makes it easier even for gamers with lower-end computers to enjoy an amazing user experience. Generally, the skin is less showy and concentrates more on functionality but doesn’t sacrifice on the looks all the same.

The skin minimizes empty space (hence the name Compact) but still manages to keep all tabs, icons and other important categories readable. With that, users can literally jump straight into their favorite games without having to dig deeper. While the skin isn’t really a complete overhaul of the default Steam, its design comes out as tighter and neater.

Readability

Compact skin for Steam client has a solid font type that’s fairly large in size hence eye-friendly. That plus the high contrast between the skin’s dark background colors and the vibrant white text colors makes readability a hassle-free thing. Moreover, Compact’s general mix of color shades is elegant yet unobtrusive, making the use of the interface, even for longer hours, non-strenuous.

Usability

Just as it is easy to read through the various sections of the skin, maneuvering around Compact Steam skin is quick and seamless. With the Friends List, Library and Steam overlay organized in the simplest manner possible, you can literally hop in and out of play swiftly.

All the complex graphics on the Steam have been removed, leaving the skin feeling light, minimalistic and aesthetically appealing. The fact that the skin is not as bulky as other Steam redesigns makes its usability, even on lower-end computers, quite impressive.

Final Thoughts

Judging by Compact’s simple, light and sleek design, it can be safe to say that the skin provides a perfect alternative to the otherwise bland and boring default Steam interface. Everything from readability through to maneuverability is on point, making it attractive to anyone looking for superb functionality.

If you are too much of tidiness freak, you’ll absolutely fall in love with this skin. It simply compacts together every important function and info but without making things look crowded. With the skin’s thoughtful overlay, you can switch from one utility to the next quite fast and with ease. So if you’re an avid multi-tasker, you’ll feel right at home with compact skin.

Generally, Compact is for anyone who loves dark skins and is looking for a less intrusive gaming experience. You are free to download the skin and upgrade your Steam client experience. Compact is very much compatible with the latest Steam update, hence there are no hassles.
